29th Apr'10 - Minis &
Juniors Chairman Paul Fish writes .... well we come
towards another fantastic year for the section and one that
I hope you have all enjoyed ! We must now turn to recognise
the efforts of our players, supporters and give plaudits and
acknowledgment where it is felt most warranted.
To this end, I would ask for the following nominations from
each age group to reach me by Sunday 9th May latest :-
Players Player of the Year
Coaches Player of the Year
Most Improved Player of the Year
I would also ask, at mini's level only, for a nomination for
in respect to a player that exemplifies what the whole game
and club is about i.e. sportsmanship, effort, teamwork,
support for the club (fund raising etc), with a brief
reasoning why it is deemed warranted, such that a Club
Player of the Year might be awarded.
Date for the Presentation Day is Sunday 23rd May and will
take the same format as last year:-
10.30 to 12.00 Minis presentation
Overview of the year by the coaches for each age group
Most Improved Player of the Year at all age groups
ditto Players player of the Year at all age groups
ditto Coaches Player of the Year
Finally, Minis DRFC Player of the Year (if awarded)
12.30 to 14.00 Juniors
presentation
Ditto format of above
The day is a Club event and
as such I would ask that you all please try to generate as
much support as is possible such that we can truly recognise
the accomplishments of the section as a whole.

26th Mar'10 - Derby RFC
Under 9s Aloha Reading tour - Neill Collier writes....
on the 9th April, 19 Under 9s, and 20 parents are embarking
on their first ever rugby tour. Dubbed the Bad Lads, Good
Dads and Scrum Mums tour, the 39 tourists will be travelling
to Reading for a fun packed long weekend (longer for some
than others…) with fun and games a dead cert, courtesy of
the Richard Beevers mobile disco.
Armed with tour kit, flags, kangaroo court, and a mountain
of “refreshments”, they will take in a mystery visit on the
Friday, a day at Legoland on Saturday, before playing in a 4
way tournament at Reading RFC, against their hosts,
Bracknell and London Irish.
Martin Bayfield, former
England second Row, and more famously, Hagrid’s body double
in the Harry Potter Films, has been invited along to talk to
the teams, present the trophies and awards, and pose for
photos.
Many thanks to our friends at
Century Studios who despite being victims of an armed
robbery and having their computer equipment stolen, have
produced a fantastic tour passport for every tourist,
featuring pictures, profiles and tour song.
