Bright
and early Sunday morning saw the culmination of all the weeks of planning and
preparation of so many people as we all arrived at the Club and began to lay out
the venue for the Lexus Junior Midlands Regional Tournament. Despite the
logistical problems in the face of so many guests and the vehicles required to
get them there, the day started extremely well. The deluge that hit at around
9.30 and finished just after 10am was soon forgotten and the sun came out and
smiled on us for the rest of the day. With only the fences covered in steaming
kit to remind of you of what had come before, the day continued smoothly and a
tournament of good quality junior rugby ensued.
The
prospect of hosting 1,000 players in five age categories and their families was
a formidable one I confess but the way in which these young men conducted
themselves, a tribute to coaches and parents alike, made the whole experience so
much easier and an extremely enjoyable one.
I would
like to extend my thanks to every team that travelled to Derby RFC and hope you
enjoyed the day as much as we enjoyed hosting you. My thanks also, to the
referees Society and the local R.F.U representatives for officiating and
managing the day with such accurate timing. Thanks too goes to the parents,
players and coaches from Derby RFC who volunteered to give up their Sunday and
more to run the event.
Of course
the whole day would not have happened if it wasn’t for the generous sponsorship
of Lexus. So my final thanks has to be to Steve and his team at Lexus
Nottingham, the good people of Blueprint partners and the MSL boys.
Thanks
for coming and we hope to see you again in the future.
