7th May'12 - Photographs from the Derby U15s v Preston Grasshoppers U15s game played on Saturday 5th May are now in the Photograph Galleries.
6th May'12 - Nat Day and Eric Draycott yesterday represented NLD U15s at Broadstreet Rugby Club where they played Leicestershire, Staffordshire, East Midlands and North Midlands. NLD were overall winners after winning three games and drawing with East Mids 12 – 12. Pictured below are Nat and Eric.
6th May'12 - The Club will now only be open (apart from functions) on Tuesday & Wednesday evenings until pre-season training starts.

1st May'12 - Reminder that we have the Derbyshire Gents v Derby Vets game on Wednesday 2nd May at Derby RFC, KO 7pm. Come along and watch the Derbyshire Gents and our Vets in action. There's a number of 1st XV players playing and we're hoping for a good attendance as we're going to have a 'bit of a party' afterwards! Derby U15s Tour Report, on the 6th - 9th April Derby U15s went on tour to Galway, here's the Tour report.
30th Apr'12 - Derbyshire 2nd XV Cup Final result, Derby 2nd XV 5 - 3 Matlock 2nd XV. In the 1st XV Final the result was Ilkeston 30 - 14 Matlock.
29th Apr'12 - NLD U13s, U15s & U17s Finals Day was abandoned today at Glossop RFC as the playing conditions were atrocious. The first two Finals of the day were both underway one of which was the NLD U15s Cup Final of Derby v Melbourne. The weather was abysmal with howling wind and driving rain which made it impossible for the teams to play rugby worthy of a Finals Day. Even the spectators were at times being blown off their feet! The referee abandoned the Derby v Melbourne game in the second half with Derby leading 10 - 00. Here's the photograph gallery from the game.

22nd Apr'12 - Derby U10s won the U10s Cup at the Ilkeston Festival today as they defeated Oakham in the final by 2 tries to nil. Throughout the whole of today's Festival the Derby U10s scored 23 Tries and conceded none. Pictured below are the U10s.
Derby U16s are the NLD U16s Cup winners. In today's final against Newark at Derby RFC the result was Derby U16s 43 - 08 Newark U16s. Pictured below are the Derby U16s.
Derby U17s narrowly miss out on a place in the National Plate Final as in today's Semi Final the result was Doncaster U17s 12 - 05 Derby U17s.
21st Apr'12 - Midlands 1 East result, Towcestrians 11 - 19 Derby. All other Midlands 1 East results and the final league table positions can be seen on the right hand side of this page as you scroll down below the Haslams advert. A quick update on the outcome of the 2011/12 season, Derby go up to National 3 Midlands, Paviors are in the playoff spot against Bournville to be played on Saturday 28th April. Spalding stay up as they beat Ilkeston 13 -12 so the 3 sides which are relegated are Leighton Buzzard, Nuneaton Old Edwardians and Coalville.
Derby U17s are in the National Plate Semi Final against Doncaster U17s tomorrow Sunday 22nd April at Doncaster RFC. KO time is 12pm.

17th Apr'12 - Alex Laybourne, who has been assisting in coaching the 2nd XV this season has just returned from running the Marathon des Sables across the Sahara. Alex completed this epic; 6 day, 156 mile event in a creditable 63 hours, 41 minutes & 46 seconds. He ran on behalf of Mencap and has raised approximately £5,000, towards his target of £10,000, to date. Juniors match reports: Market Bosworth U15s v Derby U15s A and Ashbourne U15s v Derby U15s B both games were played on Sunday 15th April'12.
Derby Vets have once again been in international action taking on Isle of Man Vets last Saturday 14th April. In 2007 the Vets just lost out to the full Austrian national side in a televised game but their second international experience resulted in a win. Scores were level 14-14 at half time before Derby’s superior fitness saw them home 28-14. Graham Boyd scored two tries and Phil Houlton and Ant Broderick one a piece. Rob Higgins converted all four. Pictured below are the Derby Vets outside their hotel in the Isle of Man.
16th Apr'12 - Derby U16s have once again won the NLD 7’s Cup with a 21 - 17 win against Matlock U16s in the Final held yesterday at Derby RFC. This is the 4th year in succession that they have won. Here's a photo of the winning Derby U16s team with their Coaches.

"This Saturday sees our last home game of the season and with it our chance to celebrate our 1st XV being the League Champions in Midlands One East. We are going to celebrate with the players after the game so please come down and join in. It would be great to see as many VP’s, Sponsors and valued members of the club there as part of the tremendous achievement this season, and our thanks go to everyone who has supported the club and the team throughout this season. Derby U15s reach NLD Cup Final 3 years in succession! Derby U15s reach the NLD Cup Final following their win over Kesteven over 2 legs, the last of which was a 0 - 0 draw on the 18th March. Here's the match report. The final will take place at Glossop RFC against Melbourne U15s on the 29th April.

5th Apr'12 - U17s National Plate update: following last Sunday's Regional final win, Derby's U17s now progress to the National Semi Final and are away to Doncaster U17s on the 22nd April, KO is 12pm.
U16s NLD Cup Final: following last Sunday's 34 - 07 semi final win against Kesteven, Derby's U16s are now in the NLD Cup Final and their opponents will be Newark U16s. The final will take place at Derby RFC on the 22nd April.

12th Mar'12 - Congratulations to Derby U16s player James Fish who made his debut for England U16s South yesterday. James will in April be in the England Under 16s South team who will compete in this season’s Wellington International Festival at Wellington College in Berkshire from April 7 to 13 alongside sides from Europe and America. Scotland U16s, France U16s and Wales U16s A will be joined by U17 teams from Canada, the United States, Netherlands and Belgium for this annual international event. |

11th Mar'12 - Leicestershire Colts Cup Final on Tues 13th March: There will be a parents / supporters coach going from Haslams to Welford Road, Leicester for the Colts Cup Final v Hinckley on Tuesday 13th March. A number of parents or family of players have already committed to the trip but it is expected there will be at least ten spare places for others, so if you are interested please speak with Roxy Fearon or Phil Jepson. The coach will leave at 4.45pm prompt and to help cover the cost there will be a charge of £5 per person. Note that at Welford Road there will be an admission charge of £5 Adults and £3 Juniors.
10th Mar'12 - Today's Midlands 1 East result: Paviors 38 - 28 Derby. Disappointment for Derby as a poor first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes cost them a game that they could have won. Having said that, it was a cracking game to watch which both sides fully contributed to and in the second half the game to and fro'd one way and then the other. With just 10 mins to go Paviors led 28 - 27 and Derby were on the ascendancy, however it was not to be and Paviors ran in 2 more tries! 29th Feb'12 - Derby Colts through to Leicestershire Cup Final: Last Saturday the Colts created a little piece of history in beating Market Bosworth 12-13 they became the first side from outside the county to reach the Leicestershire County Cup Final. Read the match report from the game. The final against Hinckley Colts is to be played at Welford Road on the evening of Tuesday 13th March'12. The KO time is still to be confirmed. A coach is currently being organised and more details about this will be posted on the website.

27th Feb'12 - After 3 successive away victories in the National Plate Derby's Colts finally have a home game. On Saturday 3rd March they will be hosting Middlesborough in the last 16 of the competition. Although both clubs have been in existence for well over 100 years this is the first time they have met at any level. The game will kick off at 1.00 pm and act as a curtain raiser for the 1st XV who kick off at 3.00pm. An exciting game is in prospect as both sides have only lost once this season in their respective leagues so please come down early and support the Colts in this historic fixture.
Next Saturday 3rd March'12 we have a feast of Rugby: The Bar will be open from 10:30am, free breakfast served 11:00am - 11:30am. Colts v Middlesborough in the National Plate kicking off at 1pm, then we have the Midlands 1 East fixture of Derby v Coalville, The Beests (2nd XV) v Nottingham University Freshers and the Vets v Bakewell all kicking off at 3:00pm. Hot food available all day.

10th Feb'12 - Seniors fixture update for Sat 11th Feb: The Derbyshire Cup Semi Final fixture of Ilkeston v Derby has been postponed due to frozen pitches. All other Derby RFC Senior fixtures for Saturday 11th Feb have also been called off due to frozen pitches.
However, do remember that the Club will be open from midday on Saturday as there are two 6 Nations games taking place and on the BIG screen we have Italy v England (4pm) and France v Ireland (8pm). NLD U20s result: Earlier this week (Monday night) at Moseley RFC, NLD U20s came back from 13-0 down at half time to beat North Midlands U20s 16-24. The NLD side included the following Derby players: Rob Beeston, Richard Bosworth, Luke Frixou, Joe Pass, Jake Roome, Tom Taylor-Dawes, Jake Thompson and Josh Tizard. Derby RFC Senior Players go Paintballing! Over the Xmas period Paul McCartin and a group of the Derby RFC Senior Players went Paintballing at Wild Park Brailsford. Paul commented that it had been a fantastic day out, really good fun and that Wild Park were great hosts. All of the players thoroughly enjoyed the experience. During November each year, Movember is
responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on
thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around
the world. The aim of which is to raise vital
funds and awareness for men’s health,
specifically prostate cancer and other cancers
that affect men. On Movember 1st, guys register
at
Movember.com with a clean-shave face and
then for the rest of the month, these selfless
and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim
and wax their way into the annals of fine
moustachery. Mo Sistas are the women who
register to support the men in their lives,
raising funds by seeking sponsorship for their
Mo-growing efforts.
Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking
billboards for the 30 days of November and
through their actions and words raise awareness
by prompting private and public conversation
around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

As it stands at the moment the website has had 143,762 visitor hits from Jan'11 to Oct'11. Over the previous two years the site had 177,512 hits in 2010 and in 2009 it was 128,110. 29th Aug'11 - The Darley Park Concert takes place on the 4th Sep'11 from 5.30pm in Darley Park. This is the UK’s biggest FREE outdoor classical concert and it returns for another year. With an amazing firework finale, Derby LIVE and sinfonia ViVA would like to invite the people of Derby and surrounding counties, towns and villages to be part of the 30,000-strong crowd at the UK’s biggest free outdoor classical concert in the stunning natural amphitheatre that is Darley Park.
Parking is available at Derby RFC for £5 per car and will be available from 3:30pm till 10.30pm. Anyone who parks their Car at the Club will be able to receive one free drink (pint of beer, glass of wine, 1 measure of spirit or a soft drink) on presentation of their parking ticket (which is only valid for the 4th September) at the Club bar of Haslams. Haslams will be open until 10:30pm to give people plenty of time for a relaxed drink after the concert.

When you go into the new Training page I am going to list the days/times for when Training takes place for all sections of the Club and in addition there's a Training Courses link which opens up a page which lists Rugby related Training Courses which can be booked using the online Training Courses Booking Form.
Coaches Meeting: Roxy Fearon and Tracy Edmundson have arranged for a Coaches meeting to take place at the Club on Friday 9th September at 7pm. In addition to their other roles Roxy and Tracy are also the Clubs Coaching Co-ordinators and at this meeting they will run through how the new Coaches Training Courses page works, how to book courses etc and they will also be looking to get some idea as to what additional training coaches are looking for.

2nd July'11 - Derby RFC have agreed a deal for reduced rates with the new gym in Derby, Gym4all, located on Normanton Road (near the Mill Hill Corner furniture shop). For more information about the gym see www.gym4all.com
For paid up Derby RFC club members wanting a 12 month minimum contract the following prices will apply: First 40 club playing members - £10.99 per month and no joining fee (usually £15) Any further club members - £14.99 per month and no joining fee For paid up Derby RFC club members wanting a short term deal (e.g. students returning to University in the Autumn) ‘Pay Monthly’ members - £16.99 per month and no joining fee (usually £25) for a minimum of 3 months (limit of 30).
Please note that the “first 40” will be limited initially to senior playing members, defined as senior men, senior ladies and senior and junior Colts (U17-U19s), but may be opened up to U16s and U15s at a later date if not fully used (minimum age for use of the gym is 15).
Non-playing club members can benefit from the £14.99 per month and no joining fee offer. In order to get these reduced rates you need to speak to Alex at the gym and quote a code that can be obtained from Colin Cornfield (seniors), Roxy Fearon (Colts) or Martin Seccombe (Ladies). Of course further checks, including payment of DRFC membership, will also take place.
15th June'11 - Seniors training starts on Tuesday 5th July at 6.45pm prompt. Splashfit gym trainers will be involved with the coaching team and oversee strength & conditioning so it will be hard but fun! The sessions will be suitable for all fitness levels and a great way to improve your own fitness so all are welcome. Training will continue at the same time for subsequent Tuesdays and Thursdays over the summer.

History
Derby RFC officially formed in 1891/2 and previous players have included Dr. Karl Mullen (British Lions Captain & Ireland Captain) and Monty Heald (President of the Canadian RFU). Monty was elected to the Board of Rugby Canada in 1986 as Vice President of the National Team after serving as a selector, chairman of selectors and team manager starting in 1978. He was elected President in 1991, retired from the position in 1999 and served one further year on the Board as a Vice President.
In 1891/2 Derby played 7 games winning 6 losing 1. One of the victories was against Nottingham and the press report told of a somewhat vigorous encounter. It’s likely that Derby had been playing for a number of seasons before 1891 but this year of 1891 is the earliest we know of any written evidence.
Post World War II, Rugby Football re-commenced at Derby in February 1946 under the banner of Derby Tigers RFC.
In the season 1949/50 at a meeting at the Derbyshire Club, Irongate here in Derby between five members of Derby Tigers and five members of the pre-war Derby RFC. The name was changed to Derby RFC "for the betterment of Rugby Football, both in Derby and Derbyshire." The club at this time were playing on Markeaton Park. Both teams colours are reflected in the present club tie.
In late 1950 the club decided on a move to Kedleston Road and leased the present field from Mr Clarke-Maxwell, an eminent Derby surgeon, for a modest sum per annum. The club purchased a sectional building from R.A.F. Wymeswold in Leicestershire at a cost of £75. The building was transported in sections, on lorries, to Kedleston Road. The club members, then numbering around 135, started digging the trenches for the foundations. Many of the bricks were second hand and the cement had to be chipped off them. In 1952 the club moved to the new ground and on September 11th Mr W.C. Ramsey, Treasurer and Vice-President of the Rugby Football Union performed the opening ceremony. In the early 60's Blackwell Colliery R.F.C. disbanded and donated their funds to Derbyshire Rugby Clubs. This funded an annex to the club area called the Blackwell Room, long since dismantled.
In 1976 it was decided to build the current dressing rooms at a cost of some £25,000. To finance this £15,000 came from club funds and £10,000 from a bond scheme. Bonds of £25 were issued to be repayed over 10 years. Some members were re-imbursed but the majority donated them to the club. The construction of the changing rooms was well under way when the purchase of the ground was offered to us for £10 000. All the monies having been allocated the pot was empty but this was an offer we could not turn down. The late, and sadly missed, Peter Joslin, almost single handedly, raised the money from the Sports Council. What an investment that proved to be !!!
In 1980, under the direction of Eddie Hilyer, the lounge was added to the complex at a cost of £20 000.
In June 2002 Derby RFC moved from Kedleston Road to the new Clubhouse and grounds at Haslams Lane. A new chapter in the history of Derby RFC has begun.
Players - Past and Present
Prominent players in the 1980’s have been Stuart Hamilton who went on to play for then mighty Coventry and Roger Lucas at Nottingham. Recently, ex-mini scrum-half Alan Dickens is now at Sale. Another ex-colt, prop forward Peter Hennessey is currently at Bedford. Sean Jennings played 533 1st XV games and scored a phenomenal 3,882 points in his time (it's highly unlikely that this record will ever be broken, it's an absolute massive amount of points). Campbell Wigley is third in the all-time points scoring table with well over 700 first team points. Colin Cornfield is now second in the appearance table with 434 appearances for the Club and he has scored 673 points with most of them scored from the wing.
Teams
We run 7 senior sides - 1st XV, 2nd XV, 3rd XV, 4th XV, Vets XV, Colts XV and a Ladies XV. We also have a very active Minis & Juniors section with teams in every age group starting from Under 7s right through to Under 17s.
Successes
2002/03 - Derby were runners up in Midlands Two West, both the 1st XV and the 2nd XV lifted the Derbyshire Cup in their respective Competitions and the 1st XV were runners up in the NLD Three Counties Cup.
Our Minis & Juniors had many successes throughout 2002/03 - U9's being both the Derby Festival winners and also the Sutton Coldfield Festival winners. Our U10's were Derby Festival winners. Our U9's, 10's & 12's all travelled to Twickenham having reached the Finals Day of the Gullivers National Tournament. Our U10's were also NLD Festival winners. Our U15's were NLD Cup Champions. Our U17's topped the Derbyshire League.
We've had players from both
Seniors and Juniors being picked to play at
County level during 2002/03 with our U15's
having had 21 players selected to play at County
level !!!
1995/96 - In 1995/6 Derby won the Three Counties
Cup and the Derbyshire Cup.
Social Aspects of the Club
Not only do we play Rugby but there's also lots of fun events as well, just take a look at the Past Events page - we've had Gig nights, Sponsored Wake Surfing, James Bond Evenings, U13's & 14's on tour in Ireland, Seniors on tour in Antwerp. We've also had the official opening of Haslams by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.
