3rd Jul'08 - The Rugby Football Union
wants everyone involved in rugby union in England to work together to create the
best possible competition structure for the game.
To ensure that the “rugby landscape” below Level 3 serves the needs of everyone,
the RFU is inviting all involved to join them in a wide ranging consultation
process.
“We want to make sure that as many people as possible take part in our
consultation so that any change in our competition structure reflects the views,
aspirations and wishes of the entire game,” says John Owen, the RFU’s Junior
Vice President and Chairman of the Rugby Landscape Task Group.
From July 1st for a period of four weeks there will be an online survey at
www.rfu.com/rugbylandscapesurvey to bring
in views so that “we get the competition structure right to sustain our member
clubs for the future,” says Owen.
After a full analysis of the questionnaire replies, there will be a
stakeholders’ forum, following which recommendations will be drawn up and
presented to the RFU Management Board and Council.
Visit
www.rfu.com/rugbylandscapesurvey to be part of
the new rugby landscape.

1st Jun'08 - Three Coaches setoff for
Twickenham at 6am (hic)
yesterday morning with Derby's U9s, U11s and Supporters on them, the destination
was Twickenham for the Gullivers Finals Day.
In the Gullivers Final our U9s won by 1 Try to
Nil against Braintree and our U11s lost by 2 Tries to Nil against Salisbury. To
reach Twickenham both sides had got through the Qualifying tournament at the
Gullivers Festival in Nottingham earlier this year. As a Club Derby RFC have
been very privileged to have had Teams reach the Twickenham Finals day for the
past 5 years, it's not everyone that can say they've played at Twickenham. Well
done to both of our young sides this year, I'm sure that it will be a day that
they will remember for a very long time.
Once the Gullivers Finals had been played out
we all sat back to take in and watch the Guiness Premiership Final between
London Wasps and Leicester Tigers unfold in
front of over 81,000 supporters inside Twickenham - awesome !
Here's the Photograph Galleries of our
U9s at Twickenham, our
U11s at Twickenham and also of the
London Wasps v Leicester Tigers match.

Apr'08 - Derby RFC are looking for a new Head Coach after Ian Gittens
announced he is to step down at the end of the season. Here's the article as
published in yesterday's Derby Evening Telegraph written by Sports writer Chris
Watson.
Gittens is
leaving the club after only a year in charge due to family commitments. His last
game will be the Derbyshire Cup final on May 11.
"This is the hardest rugby decision I have ever made but my family has to come
first," said Gittens. "The demands of travelling and my personal circumstances
are such that I no longer feel I can put into the club what the club and the
players deserve. I don't want to do half a job. That is not the person I am and
the club don't deserve it. It is incredibly frustrating because we have all
worked so hard but hopefully I have laid some good foundations for whoever takes
over."
Gittens is now considering the offer of a similar position at a club closer to
his home.
Derby's director of rugby Paul McCartin, who is also Gittens' assistant coach,
said: "As far as I am concerned, it is a blow to the club, because we were just
getting the team to play the way he wanted. After the previous regime and quite
a few players left last summer, Ian came in and started from scratch and did a
very good job with the resources available. Everyone at the club is disappointed
he is leaving but we respect and understand his decision. Nobody should
under-estimate the efforts made behind the scenes to keep the club in this
league."
Chairman Gordon Stirling said: "It is unfortunate but Ian's family has got to
come first. He did a good job and I know he feels bad, because things were
starting to turn a corner. We have lost a good coach but now we need to find
another one. We have got our feelers out and will be talking to people over the
next few weeks. We are looking at all options. It is a big job and hopefully we
can find someone who will keep people interested."
