5th May’18 3rd XV Report: Long Eaton 38 v 48 Derby (Derbyshire Shield Final)

The 3s arrived in force for the Presidents Shield Final at Long Eaton full of positivity following recent improved performances.

I’d like to thank all the lads that turned up, including all those that helped with the warmup, sorting out the water and kicking tee. Their help and support gave the team the perfect warmup.

The conditions were glorious, and just right for running rugby which suited our style of rugby.

It was a hard fought game, fast paced by two quality teams it was also a thrilling game to watch, both teams showed attacking spirit and points flowed throughout. It was very close for the first quarter but after some determined defence Derby forged ahead to create a two score difference that Long Eaton were never able to close.

By the end of the third quarter Derby had doubled their score with expansive attacking rugby. Long Eaton never gave up and did reduce the gap to 10 points but ultimately were unable to break the stubborn defence of Derby.

A fantastic result from a relatively inexperienced squad but full of heart and talent aplenty.
